Sunday's Southern Fried Catfish Hoagie

 


Menu Description

Crispy golden fried catfish served on a toasted hoagie roll with fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, creamy tartar sauce, and signature garlic aioli. A Southern classic with bold flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Sandwich

  • 1 catfish fillet (6-8 oz)
  • 1 hoagie roll, split
  • 2 slices tomato
  • 1 leaf romaine lettuce
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting roll)

Catfish Seasoning

  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt

Breading

  • ½ cup yellow cornmeal
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp Cajun seasoning
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

Tartar Sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp sweet relish
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Garlic Aioli

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp paprika

Frying

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Catfish

  1. Pat catfish dry.
  2. Season both sides with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Step 2: Bread the Fish

  1. Mix cornmeal, flour, Cajun seasoning, and garlic powder.
  2. Coat catfish evenly in breading mixture.

Step 3: Fry

  1. Heat oil to 350°F.
  2. Fry catfish 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

Step 4: Make Sauces

Mix tartar sauce ingredients in one bowl and aioli ingredients in another.

Step 5: Toast Roll

Butter the hoagie roll and toast on a griddle until golden brown.

Step 6: Build Sandwich

  1. Spread garlic aioli on the bottom half of the roll.
  2. Add lettuce.
  3. Place fried catfish on top.
  4. Add tomato slices.
  5. Drizzle or spread tartar sauce.
  6. Top with toasted hoagie roll.
